Can I connect a climate controller to the FarmWatch Pro alarm system?

Yes. Climate controllers can be connected to the FarmWatch Pro system via a digital input.

Hardware Requirements

The climate controller must have a solid-state output or a relay on its alarm output. Without such an output, it is not possible to connect the controller to the FarmWatch Pro’s digital input.

How many controllers can be connected?

FarmWatch Pro has up to 8 digital inputs. If there are more than 8 climate controllers, you can group them—for example, by sector (mating, gestation, farrowing)—and connect each group to a single input.

How Does a Group Connection (Serial Loop) Work?

When several controllers from the same sector are connected to a single digital input, this is done as a serial connection (loop) through all the controllers in the group. If an alarm occurs on any controller in the loop, the line is disconnected, the input status changes, and FarmWatch Pro triggers an alarm for that input.

“`svg Connecting climate controllers to FarmWatch Pro digital inputs Comparison of two connection methods: a single climate controller connected to one digital input labeled with a specific location, and a group of three controllers from one sector connected in a loop to one input labeled with the sector name. Single controller Climate controller Digital input 1 label: specific locationLoop group (sector) Controller A Controller B Controller C Digital input 2 label: sector name, e.g. “Farrowing”it is clear which controller triggered the alarmalarm for the entire sector – which controller triggered it is checked on-site “`

Group connection restriction
When connected in a group, FarmWatch Pro will report an alarm for the entire sector, but it will not indicate which specific controller in the loop triggered it – this must be checked directly on the climate controllers in a given sector.

How to describe an input in an app

Each digital input can be named according to what is connected to it:

  • single controller – describe the input as a specific location/controller,
  • Group of controllers in a loop—describe the input as the sector name (e.g., “Climate Controllers—Delivery Room”).

The general configuration of digital inputs and alarm thresholds is described in:

Safety
Always disconnect the power supply before performing any work on the wiring of digital inputs and climate controllers.
